As marketing professionals, we all do a lot of talking, whether it's during meetings, while giving presentations, or during business negotiations. So it makes sense that we should know the principles of effective speaking. And I'm not just talking proper grammar, inflection, and delivery here. The actual physical act of how you project air from your lungs past your vocal chords and finally to your audience, can make all the difference in how effectively you present your thoughts. It's all about breathing. And breathing correctly.
Our sister blog at BeanstalkTalk.com features a very interesting video on the subject. It's a short primer, a tutorial on the basics of effective speaking presented by Ann S. Utterback, PhD, an internationally recognized Broadcast Voice Specialist and Stress Reduction Counselor. Ms. Utterback trains announcers and on-camera talent in the proper breathing techniques that facilitate better speaking: healthy phonation; optimum resonance; and clear articulation.
The video is brief, informative, and very interesting. Especially for those of us who have to use our voices to make a living. And that includes almost all of us. To check out the video, visit the post at BeanstalkTalk here: http://beanstalktalk.com/beanblog/
